Experience & Background

Kelye Rouse Brown has been a travel career woman for over 30 years. Her career launched in the hospitality world as a Sales and Tour Coordinator to an HR and Training executive for hotels in the DC area, to becoming one of the lead corporate training professionals for the North America region for Wyndham Worldwide.

She now lends her experience and expertise to developing and growing businesses in the hospitality and service industry!

Kelye’s Passion & Core Approach

Her advice to all: “Travel often, be relaxed and at home in your heart wherever you are. Explore, savor the experience and enjoy the ride. As the saying goes, it’s about the journey, not the destination.” This is who Kelye is. Expanding Initiatives

Currently, Kelye keeps busy with her businesses KRB Business Solutions, Wholistic Women Living, and three joint ventures in DFW and Nashville International airports with Minute Suites. Wholistic Women Living (formally Wholistic Women Retreats & Academy), is a wellbeing organization dedicated to positive practices to live more fully into our best self.

Minute Suites is the award winning Travelers Retreat offering private suites (and showers) inside airport security that are clean, quiet and safe. Kelye launched with the co-founders as the hospitality expert and then became a partner in 2012. With multiple hospitality and airport concession certifications, you could say travel is not only Kelye’s passion but a huge part of who she is as a person.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to get into the travel industry?

When I was opening hotels and training in North America, I traveled on average 40 weeks a year and lived out so many scenarios. While I learned a lot of practical skills in the travel industry, it’s my diverse people experience and hospitality skills that are the driver in my businesses. Service requires a lot of energy, empathy, and adaptability to make the magic happen.

How do you integrate your joint ventures and businesses for business success?

Being an owner in business since 2005 and growing in the hospitality industry since 1990, it’s natural to combine the culture and service experience as main ingredients for business success. Learning is a constant, but how you apply the education, stay current, keep your team motivated, retain your team and cultivate company growth is the goal. Opening over 100 hotels, providing corporate training for GM’s and Owners and on-site customized training gave me the arranger skill to put the pieces together to understand travel, hospitality, people and provide a positive experience on all levels. It was a requirement to be certified in the states I was doing business, so I started in my home state Maryland and then Texas, where my business joint ventures started with Minute Suites and now Nashville, Tennessee. I am business certified in PA, GA, IL, CO, VA/DC and AZ too. Being the pioneer in airports for this wellness concept and becoming a joint venture business partner for three locations has been the most rewarding business experience. It became clear that individual commitment and company cohesion is the key combination. Business is a team sport – be an excellent player!

Why is culture and corporate wellbeing such an important part of your mission, core values and how you lead?

When I was an HR and Training Director for hotels in the Washington, DC area, and Corporate Training Coach for Wyndham (Cendant) Worldwide for over 15 years, I learned how hotels and the largest franchise in the world embraced the importance of creating mission statements, a postive culture and living out company core values by working in the field, leading monthly owner and general manager orientations and roll-out initiatives. I worked with all of the hotel brands, at the time, over 6,000 hotels, providing customized training, conference speaking engagements and I got it – the brands felt different. Not bad, not good, just different. The famous quote by Peter Drucker “Culture eats strategy for breakfast” is true. It starts with hiring the right employees, orienting and training them to be your brand ambassadors and business cheerleaders – then you focus on the motivation, recognition and celebrate loyalty. I like to say “love ‘em or lose ‘em” – this helps you lead from the inside out, creating a positive work environment, memorable guest experience and business success. My organization called Wholistic Women Living, is dedicated to positive, wellbeing practices to live more fully into your best self.
